About US

After having taught children and teachers in the U.S. and other countries using
traditional educational methods, Dixie Oliver was introduced to Montessori
through a friend here in Atlanta. She finished her training at the Montessori
Institute and gained Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) certification. In
an effort to piece together these new educational understandings and the
sensitivites she acquired through her experiences in Vitnam and as a teacher
trainer, she started her own school in 1981.

Montessori Christian Academy came into being because Dixie Oliver was and
is committed to the premise that this school and all her efforts in childhood
education are dedicated to the glory of God. Because she wants to make her
school's programs available to all children, no applicant has ever been
excluded because of race, religion, or national origin.

The school was officially named Montessori Christian Academy when it
obtained 501c3 non-proft status in 1988, but upon moving to our current
location, the board of directors elected to do business as The Alpharetta
International Academy.
